Wayne Gary Maxey was born on April 10, 1945, to Mary Bell and Charles Spencer Maxey in Memphis, Tennessee. He departed this life on May 20, 2024, at 2:30 am at Baptist North Little Rock, leaving a legacy that will be cherished forever.
Wayne’s teenage years were marked by his passion for football, which he played avidly at his Catholic high school. Shortly after graduating, he married Linda, and together they had two beautiful children, Michael Wayne and Lisa Marie. Wayne later found love again with Vicki, and their union blessed him with his youngest child, Brandon Esley
Wayne’s professional life was devoted to the Memphis Animal Shelter, where he served as an animal control officer. His dedication to his work earned him great respect and recognition within the community.
Beyond his career, Wayne’s heart was full of love for dancing, a passion that led him to established the Memphis Bop Club. Through this club, he taught thousands how to dance, creating lasting friendships and touching countless lives.
Wayne’s zest for life extended to his role as a Shriner clown, known affectionately as Peewee the Clown. He brought joy and laughter to many, performing at circuses, children’s birthday parties, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. His generosity knew no bounds, as he was a lifelong donor to St. Jude, always seizing opportunities to bring smiles to children’s faces.
Even in retirement, Wayne’s spirit of service never wavered. He volunteered for Memphis in May, organizing parties on Beale Street, and later worked security for PSF Web. His life was a tapestry of exciting events and deep, enduring friendships.
Wayne is survived by his children, Michael Wayne Maxey, Lisa Marie Reynolds, and Brandon Maxey, as well as 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, who will continue to carry his spirit in their hearts.
Wayne’s love for his family and friends, his passion for dancing, and his dedication to bringing joy to others defined his remarkable life. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
From the family,
We ask in lieu of flowers to donate to St Jude as that was dad's favorite charity organization.
