William Jackson Byrd

William Jackson Byrd, age 93, passed away on February 17, 2020. Mr. Byrd was born January 8, 1927 in Memphis, TN. Most of his school years were spent at Germantown with the last one and a half years at Bartlett. A World War II veteran, he served in the military from June 1945 until January 1947 where he served in Italy helping war brides fill out papers to come to the USA. Mr. Byrd went to Maryville College in Maryville, TN from 1947-1948. However, after not being able to find a summer job, he came home to attend Memphis State from 1948-1950. He graduated in August 1950 with a major in Business Administration. Mr. Byrd worked for First Tennessee Bank for 27 years and was Vice President of the International Department. He retired in December of 1989. Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his parents, James Lawson Byrd and Pruda Byrd and his siblings, Catherine Dyer, Eva Moore, James Byrd, Jr., and David Byrd. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, February 21, 2020 from 10am until the funeral service begins at 11am at Grace Presbyterian Church, 6671 Yale Rd. Bartlett, TN. Interment will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Rd. Memphis, TN.
