David was born in Union City, Tennessee on June 7, 1940 the only child born to the late William Odes and Nellie Mitchell Chamberlain. He graduated from Union City High School in 1958 and then began his working career at the Capital Theater in Union City.
He moved to Memphis where he worked at the Claridge Hotel and eventually retired from the State of Tennessee after 47 years.
He met his wife Wilma Sanders at a diner in Union City, they married April 11, 1963, and they were married 59 years. Two children came from those 59 years, Dorian (Jill) Chamberlain and Kim (Eric) Crane; grandchildren Brittany (Drew) Hunt and Taylor (Kaitlyn) Chamberlain; and great-grandson Eli Chamberlain.
He was a member of Kirk Baptist Church since 2022; was an avid Memphis Tiger Fan and was a great lover of all trains. His favorite of all was Amtrak, making several trips on the City of New Orleans. He made several other travels across the United States as well. They went to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Mackinac Island in Michigan and Gatlinburg in Tennessee just to name a few.
Family and friends will gather on Monday, September 16 beginning at 12:30 P.M. until funeral services begin at 2:00 PM all at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in David's honor be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
