William Andrew Sampson Jr.

William A. (Bill) Sampson, Jr., 91, passed away, peacefully, April 12, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital after a brief illness. Bill was born to Nora and Willie Sampson and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Christian Brothers High School where he graduated in 1942. Upon graduation he served in the Navy until he was discharged in 1946. Bill attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI where he graduated cum laude in 1950. After a brief time with the Internal Revenue Service, Bill worked as a CPA with Rynolds, Bone and Griesbeck, a Memphis based CPA firm until he retired as a partner in 1991.

Bill married Betty Ozanne in 1949. They were happily married for 66 years. Bill and Betty were founding members in the parish of St. Michael Catholic Church. Bill served on the parish council, the school board and service committees within the parish. Bill is survived by his wife, Betty, their children; Andy and his wife Jennifer, Terrie, Michael, Russell and his wife Karen, and Betsy, 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his brother Louis Sampson, his sister Sister Maria Sampson, and his nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 12 noon on Friday, April 15th, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 3867 Summer Ave in Memphis. The visitation will be followed by the funeral mass at 2 PM and burial at Calvery cemetery followed by a gathering at Memphis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, P.O. Box 9, Nazareth, KY 40048.
