
Willis Louise “Billie” Smith was born in Covington, KY on March 9, 1927 and passed on June 21, 2015 in Memphis, TN at the age of 88. Billie worked for the IRS for more than 30 years as a manager. After retirement, she volunteered at Baptist Hospital East. She was a member of Decatur Trinity Christian Church. Billie was an avid reader, and from a young age, Billie loved horse racing due to her father. He was a Jockey, and won the Kentucky Derby in 1934. Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Stanley Smith; son, Richard Stephen Smith; one grandson; and her four siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Ellen L. Smith, Sarah Brodsky (Ed) and Jane Eschelweck (Don); sons, Jeffrey A. Smith (Ginger) and Mark A. Smith; eight grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will have an intimate committal service in the Memphis National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in her name to the Salvation Army or to the Disabled American Veterans.
