Yit Sum Chu, passed away on March 30, 2026, at the age of 99. Born on April 4, 1926, in Canton, China, she was the former proprietor of Chu's Supermarket on Springdale Street, Memphis, Tennessee for over 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bak Sai Chu, and two of their children, Elizabeth Chu and James Chu. She is survived by six children, Jackie Choi, Leon Chu, Sophia Rodgers, Rose Chu, Sammy Chu, and April Chu; eight grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, on Saturday, April 4 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, 824 South Dudley Street, Memphis, on Tuesday, April 7 at 10:00 AM.
