Gilbert D. Mericle

Gilbert D. Mericle, age 71, of Menasha, passed away unexpectedly after a short battle with cancer on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Rennes Health Center in Appleton. On November 26, 1942, Gilbert was born in Appleton to the late Donald and Anna (Birling) Mericle. Gilbert was united in marriage to Sharron Dahl on August 21, 1965 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Menasha.

Gilbert loved being “Up North” at his cottage with his dog Trooper, sitting on the front porch, deer hunting, fishing, riding his 4-wheeler, or feeding his wilderness friends.

Gilbert will be missed by Sharron and their children: Vicky (Charles) Plumbley, Carrie (Larry) Smit, Mike (Kerri) Mericle; his grandchildren: Nicole, Ashley, Payton, Josh, and Brooke; sisters: Donna Remter, Mary (Martin) Vande Burgt, Darlene Baier, mother-in-law, Lois Dahl; sisters-in-law: Rita Heinz, Diane (Dennis) Nackers, Carla (Tom) Williamson; a brother-in-law Darryl Quimby; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, McKenzie, father-in-law, Lawrence Dahl; sisters: Edna (Pete) Derkes, Beverly Klinker; sister-in-law, Kathy Quimby; brothers-in-law: Gordon Remter, Earl Baier, and Mike Heinz.

The Funeral will be held at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Martens-Laemmrich Funeral Home, 312 Milwaukee Street in Menasha. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery in the Town of Menasha. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at AMC, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Peabody Manor, and Rennes Health Center for the kindness and care given to Gilbert and his family.
