Barry Michael French Jr. was born on May 13,1985 in St. Louis, Missouri, to the union of Barry French and Danita Marie French. From the beginning, Barry approached life as something to be experienced and explored; Creating his own agency by navigating the world by his own self discoveries. His big soul and bright heart led to creating connections across the world, leaving his footprints of meaningful relationships globally.
His exploration took shape through education, service, and lived experience. Barry graduated from Oceanside High School in 2003, stepping forward with a spirit already inclined toward independence and discovery. From there, his path carried him into service to his country, where his journey took shape. On January 3, 2008, Barry enlisted in the United States Army, answering a call that aligned with his values of service and driven purpose. He served until November 10, 2010, attaining the rank of PV2. His military service was another chapter in his exploration of the world pivoting him into a new role of becoming a father.
Barry was a reflective soul, one who lived authentically within his emotions and allowed empathy to guide how he treated others. His generosity and love was without pause. What he had, he shared. Who he was, he offered freely. His smile was disarming, that softened the spaces he entered. In his final days, Barry concentrated toward his continued faith and deep relationship with Christ. He fostered the Lord’s teaching to ensure all of his loved ones are reunited through salvation as he prepared for transition.
Barry Michael French Jr. departed this life on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the age of 40. He left his footprints in places and people, and his presence continues through the connections he formed and the love he gave. Barry is preceded in death by his grandmother, Shirley Harris, who transitioned on January 18, 2015.
Barry is survived by his beloved son, Darnell Smith; his siblings, Sharonda White, Charles (Asha) White, and Aniya Powell; his grandmother, Deloris Woodley; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, and friends across the world who will forever cherish his memory.
