Nancy was born in St. Paul, MN; when she was 3, the family moved to the rural community of Fairhope, Alabama. She was raised on the family egg farm, attending local schools. After high school, Nancy attended the University of Montevallo, majoring in Education. Following college, she taught school for several years in Pensacola, Florida - she was also an instructor at the Author Murray School of Dance.
Nancy loved anything to do with water, and she and her friends had a ski boat they would frequently take out on the waters around Pensacola. It was on one of these trips that she met the man who became her husband of more than 50 years - Lacy Causey. After the two were wed, her husband was sent on the first of what would be many overseas deployments courtesy of the United States Marine Corps.
During the ensuing years, Nancy had four boys, and continued to teach school while spending considerable time as the primary parent due to Lacy’s deployments overseas, which included three tours in Vietnam. The family was stationed in South and North Carolina, Virginia, and Minnesota. Lacy’s second to last assignment was in Southern California, and the family arrived in Orange County, ultimately settling in Riverside County. In California, Nancy gained her real estate license, and also found time to start an industrial matting business - an entity she ran for ~30 years. She also continued to work in real estate until she was 89 - not even people with whom she worked were aware of her more than 40 years of ‘experience’.
Nancy was very active in her church over her life, from playing the piano and organ at her church in Fairhope as a teenager, to leading the Finance committee of Sun City UMC until as recently as last year. It wasn't just the business of church - Nancy was extremely faithful - her great grandfather emigrated from Norway and founded a Methodist church - and she maintained her faith throughout her life, shaping her sons (two of whom are active in their own church services and the operations).
It was her faith that helped her raise her boys, and maintain a 55 year marriage (Lacy passed away in 2016). Through her faith she touched the lives of so many of the people who were fortunate to know her.
Nancy is survived by four sons, three daughters-in-law, five grand children, and one great grand child; as well as her sister-in-law and her husband, and four nieces and nephews.
