With her parents Gerardo and Trinidad, Nancy and her siblings Lumi, Cora, Tony, Milo, and Ellie had a happy childhood in the Philippines until the war broke out in 1943. Their lives changed and they had to endure the horrors of war until it ended in 1945. Her dad, Gerardo, fought in the war for the United States and for his sacrifice, he and his family were offered U.S. citizenship. They came to U.S. incrementally, and eventually settled in Garden Grove, CA. Here they stayed on their uncle’s strawberry ranch where Nancy and her brothers and sisters had various jobs to help the family.
She went to Garden Grove HS and graduated in 1957. Education was very important to Nancy and her caring, compassionate personality made it easy for her to choose the medical field as her profession. She completed the nursing program at Orange Coast College, graduated in 1958, then gained valuable experience working at local hospitals. She then furthered her education and obtained her master’s degree in healthcare management and attained the title of Medical Records Director at Bay Harbor, Long Beach Memorial and Anaheim Memorial Hospitals. She also had a successful business as a medical consultant. Throughout her remarkable career, Nancy made many life-long friends and established valuable relationships with her business colleagues. She kept contact with them and she often referred individuals for potential jobs, and recommended others for positions when she saw a good fit. She was an advocate for those who were interested in healthcare and strongly encouraged hospitals to give raises to reward their good employees.
On June 25, 1960, Nancy married the love of her life, Roberto (“Bert”) Jangaon. They lived an enjoyable life, first in Garden Grove, then retired to Sun City/Menifee in their later years. They never had their own children, but this enabled them to travel and visit their many friends and family all over the United States. Whether driving their van to Las Vegas or Solvang. flying to Hawaii or Virginia, or cruising to Mexico, they were like honeymooning newlyweds on every trip they embarked on. They were totally devoted to each other, and the everlasting love and commitment to their marriage that we all witnessed serves as their legacy to us all. Seldom did we ever see one without the other as they were rarely apart.
When the unthinkable happened, Nancy was devastated with having to go on without her beloved Bert. She bravely continued on, even throughout the terrifying medical procedures that she had to endure for a chance at saving her life. She summoned up incredible courage and strength to remain as positive as she could even when we all knew she was in terrible pain. Thankfully, she had the best team of doctors, who became like family over the course of her years of challenges. Our hearts were broken when she finally lost her battle, but we take comfort in knowing that she is together with her beloved husband once again.
To her many nieces and nephews, she was affectionately our Auntie Nani, or Tita Nancy. We cherished her dearly, but she considered herself fortunate, as she was always included in each family’s activities and events. She was our favorite aunt, Ninang, godmother, and Nanang, whose calendar was always full as she juggled our baptisms, christenings, graduations, and weddings. She was generous, inspiring, and unconditional with her love for us, our kids, and our kid’s kids. Her passing is an unbearable loss but is lessened when we remember that she’s no longer in pain.
Nancy is survived by her brothers Tony and Milo, sisters Lumi and Cora, numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, her god children, and countless friends and associates. Her services are as follows:
