Ruth was born on June 18, 1927, in Lisbon, Iowa. She spent her childhood on a farm in Iowa, a place that remained close to her heart throughout her life. She often shared fond memories of growing up in the countryside and carried with her the strong values of hard work, dedication, and family that were instilled in her from an early age.
During World War II, Ruth proudly joined countless other women in supporting the war effort while many of the nation's men, including her husband, served overseas. She took great pride in contributing during this important time in American history.
Ruth was married to the love of her life, Forrest Marion Sweet, when she was 18 years old, who preceded her in death. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and service. They especially enjoyed traveling to Pismo Beach, California, where they created many cherished memories together.
Although Ruth's greatest joy was being a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, she also worked for several years as a baker for the local school district. She was known for her exceptional cooking and baking and took great pride in preparing homemade meals for those she loved. Ruth devoted countless hours to caring for her home and family, often spending her days cooking, cleaning, and ensuring everyone around her felt welcomed and cared for.
Ruth also dedicated many years of service as a volunteer at her local hospital. Her kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others touched many lives and reflected her compassionate spirit.
Ruth is survived by her loving grandchildren, Sheri Goodwin, Robert Sorensen, Lori Griffin, Staci Sweet, Nicole Sweet, Michael Brandon Sweet, and Michael Nelson Sweet; and her great-grandson, Jeffrey James Goodwin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Marion Sweet; her son, Forrest Michael Sweet; her daughter, Nancy Ruth Hayward; and her great-grandson, Corey Michael Wilkinson.
