Susan Anne Stockmyer

August 27, 1942 – April 10, 2026

Susan Anne (Gury) Stockmyer, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and pillar of faith, passed away on April 10, 2026, at 83 years old. She departed this world loved and supported by her family.

Born August 27, 1942, in Peoria, Illinois, Susan was the second of seven children of Elmer Francis Gury and Mary Virginia Burson Gury. From an early age she was devout in her Catholic faith and demonstrated the caring and compassionate qualities that made her the loving person she was to all she encountered. She graduated from Academy of Our Lady in Peoria in 1960 and went on to receive a degree in Medical Technology from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa in 1964.

After relocating to Denver, Colorado, Susan met her beloved husband, Clifford Wayne Stockmyer, and they were married December 20, 1969. Her devotion to the love of her life never wavered in their almost 57 years of marriage. Following the birth of their daughter Elizabeth, Susan and the family resided in numerous midwestern cities, supporting her husband’s career as a city manager. In 1987 the family relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska and stayed until 2015 when Susan and Clifford moved to Menifee, California to be closer to their grandchildren.

Susan’s love and enthusiasm for family and friends was a special trait. She would do anything to support them and they were blessed by this devotion. She was also very passionate about her hobbies of knitting and crocheting, needlework, and quilting – routinely gifting items she made to those close to her. She loved baking, gardening, puzzles and reading as well. Over the last sixteen years, she treasured the joy her two grandchildren brought to her.

Susan leaves behind her husband Clifford, her daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Douglas Gamble, and her grandchildren Sarah and Michael Gamble. She is also survived by her siblings Mary Frances Gury, John (Janice) Gury, Jeanne Gury Hess, and Lynette (Tom) Akers and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Annette Rita Gury and Martha Gury Cooksey.

Those who knew Susan would remember the kindness and love she offered willingly and her strong commitment to her Catholic faith. She will be deeply missed and forever treasured by all whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be held at Miller-Jones Menifee Memorial Park and Mortuary, 26770 Murrieta Rd., Menifee, CA 92585, US, on April 30, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Funeral Service will take place at St Vincent Ferrer Church, 27931 Murrieta Rd, Menifee, CA 92586, US, on May 1, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.

A Committal Service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518, US, on May 1, 2026, from 12:45 pm to 1:15 pm.
