April 27, 1953 – July 29, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vaa Tavui, who passed away on July 29, 2026, at the age of 73.
Born in Samoa on April 27, 1953, Vaa was raised in Oceanside, California, and later made his home in both California and Hawaii, where he found joy in the people, the natural beauty, and the coast.
Vaa proudly served his country as an Airborne Paratrooper. His military service reflected the dedication and resilience that remained with him throughout his life.
Music was one of Vaa’s greatest passions. He loved playing his guitars and ukuleles and singing with family and friends, using music to bring people together. He also enjoyed spending time in nature, and making memories with his beloved dogs—Mika, Kika, and Sole. Whether taking them for car rides or playing ball, they were treasured companions.
Vaa is survived by his loving wife; his two sons; his stepdaughter; his grandchildren and step-grandchildren; his brother; and many members of the Tavui and Malepeai families, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Vaa will be remembered for his love of music, his devotion to his dogs, his appreciation for the outdoors, and his service to his country. His songs, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
May he rest in eternal peace.
