Winifred Albertha Kelly was born on December 08, 1927, in Sittee River, Stann Creek District in the Southeast region of Belize. Winifred was one of six children born to Amybell Castillo and Fredrick Kelly. After the death of their parents, Winifred and her siblings were raised by their paternal grandmother, Abigail Brocket Kelly. Abigail provided a strict upbringing for her grandchildren. Every Sunday she and the children attended church, being the first to arrive and the last to leave. Winifred was 16 or 17 when Abigail passed.
After that, she was raised by her Aunt Goddy Trap (a.k.a. Brutus). She attended Wesley School on Albert St. and by choice, stopped attending school at grade 6 as she preferred to work. Her first job was at a lemonade factory and then as a cook for the Police Department. She raised her five children on Pantamo St. in Belize City.
In 1975, at the age of 48, she came to the United States. She was a resident of Chicago, Illinois for more than 40 years. In 2014, at her request, Ms. Kelly moved to California and lived with her son Maurice.
Winifred was survived by five children, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family.
