on Feb. 8, 2014.
Dorothy, the daughter of William and Mable Haefer, was born in
Excelsior. She was united in marriage to John H. Birthrong in 1948 at
Trinity Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, and was a resident of Milwaukee
for more than 50 years. A lifelong Wisconsin resident, John and
Dorothy would split their time between Camp Delton (Lake Delton) and
wintered in Florida. Since the death of her husband John in 2006,
Dorothy had been living in West Bend and, most recently, at Cedar
Community.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters Faith (Ted) Ave-Lallemant,
Connie (Dale) Koehler, Joyce (Frank) Bliss and Jill (Mike) Kubczak;
nine grandchildren: Danielle, Rachael, Trina, Rebecca, Steven,
Philip, John, Nicholas and Nathan; and nine great-grandchildren:
Addie, Alicia, Amira, Aurorah, Chase, Fred, Kaitlyn, Makiah and
Taijen; and finally 3 grand-puppies: Shelby, Izzy and Abby. Dorothy
is also survived by her remaining siblings: Evelyn Koscinski, Lester,
Alan and Larry Haefer, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded
in death by her parents, infant daughter Lynn, her husband John, and
three brothers (Ernest, Willie and Arthur) and four sisters (Eunice,
Virginia, Evelyn and Norma).
An avid reader and seamstress, Dorothy has left those who knew and
loved her with a passion for the beauty of the world around us as
well as many beautiful quilts which will remind us of her love as
they keep us warm. Dorothy enjoyed history, traveling, and camping.
She was a dedicated fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee
Brewers. While her career was in the nursing field, Dorothy was
always a mother first.
To those who have expressed their sorrow at our loss we say “thank
you” but Dorothy is where she wanted to be, her eyes see clearly now
and no more aches and pains. While tears fill our eyes, our hearts
rejoice that she is finally home with her Lord.
A viewing will be held Saturday, Feb. 15 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church,
462 Meadowbrook Drive in West Bend, from 10-11:45 a.m., with the
funeral service at noon. Schramka – Herrick Funeral Home of Menomonee
Falls is honored to be assisting her family with funeral arrangements.
