Alice Borges Ross, a long time resident of Merced, was born in Taunton, MA on July 6, 1918 and passed away on August 16, 2012 in Lodi, CA at the age of 94.
During her early childhood Alice’s family moved from Taunton, MA and settled in Merced Falls, CA. She attended both Merced Falls and Merced local schools.
Alice served during WWII for 3 years as a welder at the Sausalito Shipyards. Shortly after WWII she worked in maintenance at CAFB. She then started a 30 year career as a dining hostess at the Branding Iron until her retirement.
She loved the outdoors, gardening, and dancing in her younger days. She loved being with friends and family, and especially enjoyed the annual trips to Disneyland.
She was a hard worker who always had a smile on her face. Alice was a cheerful person and a perfect example to all those who knew her.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, George Ross; parents, John Borges and Alice Diaz Borges; sister, Pauline Herlitz; and brother, John Borges.
She is survived by her only son, Gene Holman; 2 grandchildren, Linda Hilscher of Manteca and Ken Holman of Mountain View; and 5 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B St., Merced, CA on Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 11:00am-12:00pm and services will follow at 12:00pm. Burial will be at Merced District Cemetery at 1:00pm with a reception to follow at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home Reception Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.
