Arthur Paul Harris M.D., born December 11, 1917 in Rexburg, Idaho to Arthur and Zina Cole Harris, passed away October 16, 2012 at his home in Merced, California at the age of 94 years.
Dr. Harris attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah and in February 1943, graduated from Louisville Kentucky Medical School. In March of 1943, he married his high school sweetheart, Maxine Hallstrom. Dr. Harris served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp during WWII in the European Theater until June 1944 and the Army of Occupation in Germany, Denmark and Austria until 1946 upon which he was honorably discharged. Dr. Harris was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and worked for the VA in San Francisco. Later he moved to Merced to work at Merced General Hospital where he practiced General Medicine and Surgery for 50 years in Atwater and Merced.
Dr. Harris was very active in his community. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, past president of the Merced-Mariposa Medical Society, and American Medical Director for 6 years. He was a member of the Merced Elks Lodge #1240 for over 60 years and also a member of the Merced Golf and Country Club.
Dr. Harris leaves behind his wife of 69 years, Maxine Harris; sons, Paul Arthur (Sharon), twins, Robert Lewis (Susan) and Richard Thomas (Patty); grandchildren, Amanda (Kam), Patrick and Alec; great granddaughter, Olivia; brother, Douglas Harris; and sister, Joann Manwaring.

A visitation will be held Sunday, October 21, 2012, 12:00-5:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Chapel, 1490 B Street in Merced. A viewing is scheduled for Monday, October 22, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. with services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, 1080 E. Yosemite Ave, Merced, CA 95348. Burial will follow with military honors at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Services are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.
