Barbara Sue Herfurth

December 11, 1941 – July 22, 2010

Barbara Sue Herfurth left this life peacefully on July 22, 2010 following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born at Mercy Hospital on December 11, 1941 to Houston and Maudie Sanders and was a life-long resident of Merced, California. She attended Merced High School and graduated in 1959. Following High School she was employed by the Credit Bureau of Merced and McMahan’s Furniture Store. In 1962 Barbara met and fell in love with Del Hurfurth and they were married on June 1, 1963. Several years later they started their family. As the children began attending school, Barbara became active in PTA, Little League and Little Miss Softball. The greatest joy of her life was spending time with her family. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a loyal friend. She will be missed by all who had the privilege to have known her.

Barbara leaves behind her husband, Del Herfurth; son, Mark Herfurth; daughters, Cheryl Neely and Laura Herfurth; son-in-law, Brian Neely, and granddaughter, Kaitlyn Neely, all of Merced. She is also survived by her brothers, Roy Sanders of Atwater, and Bill Sanders and Ed Sanders both of Merced.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B Street, Merced, Ca. Burial will follow at Merced District Cemetery.
