Mr. Brown drove the Merced High bus that I rode to school in the 1969 to 1971 timeframe.  He always said hello to me as I boarded and called me by name.  He asked all of the children their names so that he could address us all as we boarded.  

One time he drove the Merced High track team to a meet in Modesto.  Well, he watched the whole meet and saw me win a race.  When I boarded the bus he said something like "Ed, you really burned those boys".  He said it loudly and most of my teammates heard it.  I felt so much pride that Mr. Brown recognized my small achievement.  He was a wonderful man to all of us.
