

Contance, or “Connie” as she was known, was born April 2, 1935 to Charles and Gertrude Momberger. She was a 1953 graduate of Farmingdale High School in Long Island, New York. Connie met the love of her life, Edward G. Verderber, at a New Year’s Eve party in 1952, and they were married on June 16, 1956. Upon receiving commission with the USAF, 2nd Lt. and Mrs. Verderber went on to raise 7 children, while living in several locations throughout the United States and Newfoundland.
In 1979, Connie returned to college to obtain a degree in nursing, serving the Merced Community until retirement. Connie was an active member in the Catholic Church, Merced United for Life and multiple Merced County organizations, including MOAA (formerly TROA), Republican Women’s Association, American Legion auxiliary, and past volunteer work with Girl Scouts of America, and the Bridge Counseling services of Merced.
Connie is preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters, (of which one was her twin) her husband Edward, and three children Constance, David, and Christine.
She is survived by her children Edward C. Verderber (Cindy), Doreen Verderber, Coleen Mathis (Jeff), Gerard Verderber (MaryAnn) and Ann-Marie Selgelid (Dan), 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her companion of recent years, Chuck Ross of Merced.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home. Services will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Merced on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. followed by funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at San Joaquin National Cemetery in Santa Nella at 2:00 p.m.
