

Edward G. Hoyt Jr. “Always Fabulous” was born in Gridley, California; he spent his youth in Kingsburg, California, most recently residing in the Monterey area for the past 14 years. Edward joined our Lord after a courageous battle with cancer, on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at his home in Merced, surrounded by his loving family.
Edward attended College of San Mateo and San Francisco State College, where he studied radio and television. Edward would later attend the University of San Francisco, where he would earn a degree in Economics. Edward started his career in radio at KONG-AM&FM, Visalia, California. He worked his way up to on-air positions in Portland, Oregon, San Jose, California, and Seattle, Washington.
Edward returned to San Jose in 1977, to transition to the advertising and marketing side of the radio business. In 1981, he became a Sales Manager at KMEL, in San Francisco. A goal of radio station ownership would lead to Edward’s first General Manager position in 1984, at KTYD-FM, in Santa Barbra, California. Edward would go on to own radio stations in Fresno, Bakersfield, Santa Rosa, and Merced, California.
After a thirty-year career in radio Edward and Darlyne relocated to the Monterey Peninsula, where they began a career in real estate. Edward was a founding board member of 1st Capital Bank, with branches in Monterey, Salinas, and King City.
One of his fondest memories was winning the 2008 Pasadera Men’s Conquistador Golf Championship.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Hoyt Sr. and Doris Hoyt of San Jose, California and stepdaughter, Stacy Willhite.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darlyne Hoyt; stepson, Derek (Cheryl) Willhite; grandchildren, Chase Kurry and Jaymee Willhite of Chowchilla, California, Jessica Kurry of San Antonio, Texas, Timothy Bonifay of Benicia, California and Emily Valenzuela; and his sister Susan (Marty) Liplet of Lockeford, California.
A special thanks for their loving care, goes to Edward’s sister-in-law Linda Van Howelingen of Chowchilla and friends, Frankie Spiva, Patty and Al Hath of Monterey, Bill and Sharon Wainwright of Monterey and many others. Also a special thanks to Dr. Roger Shiffman, Pacific Cancer Care, Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula and Hinds Hospice. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home located at 1490 B Street, Merced, California.
