Enedina Salazar Melgosa, 87, departed this life in the company of her family on November 21, 2015. She was born February 11, 1928 in Glendale AZ to Francisco and Ernestina Salazar. She was the youngest daughter of nine children. The family moved to CA, first to Brawley, and then settling in Merced in the 1940s.
As a young girl, she learned the value of family and had a thirst for knowledge. In Merced, she met the love of her life Rudolph Melgosa. They married and raised a family. She enjoyed a life surrounded by her family, gardening and staying informed of the goings on in the world. She could discuss all topics from politics to finance to recipes and gardening. She loved relating stories of growing-up picking fruit and of the camaraderie of lifelong friends that were made during those days. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy/ St. Patrick's Parish and supporter of OLM School. She could be found supporting her grandchildren at parades and ball games or accompanying them on school trips. Travel took her from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada to the mountains of Montana to the woods of Upstate New York; from the islands of the Pacific to those of the Caribbean and to the great sites of Europe, that a little girl picking tomatoes in Merced could only imagine. She was proud of what she and her husband were able to build together. She enjoyed gatherings of family and friends. In recent years, it was these very gatherings that could reach her through the fog of her illness.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Rudolph Melgosa, her parents Francisco and Ernestina Salazar, sisters: Mary Ramirez, Ernestina Estrada and Alice Salazar and grandson Jason Melgosa.
She is survived by her sons Larry (Kathy) Melgosa and Mark (Carol) Melgosa and daughter Lisa Melgosa all of Merced; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren, 1 sister, 4 brothers and many many nieces and nephews and her constant companions Lola and Maya.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rudolph and Enedina Melgosa Scholarship Fund at Our Lady of Mercy School at 1400 East 27th Street Merced CA 95340.
