Ernie was born on September 26, 1921 in Lipan, TX to parents, Linwood and Inez Hewlett. He went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2013. After graduating from Merced High School he married the love of his life, Cloerine (Bostick) Hewlett.
Ernie held jobs in Merced and owned small businesses before moving his family to Le Grand to farm. Ernie and Cloerine are best remembered for their family business, “Hewlett’s Antiques”. Their business allowed them to travel throughout the United States buying antiques and bringing them back to their business in Le Grand to sell. He truly loved the antique business. He was overjoyed to visit his cousins and family in Texas where he celebrated his 91st birthday. He then continued onto Maine for his last antique buying trip.
He lived his faith in God and was the tower of strength for his family and many friends.
Ernie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cloerine; parents, Linwood and Inez Hewlett; brother, William Hewlett; sister, Jimmie Bernard; and grandchildren, Judson and Ginger Lefler.
He is survived by his four children, Dixie Lefler (Jim), Judy Kahl (Kitt), Katie Ritter (Harold), and Buster Hewlett (Sherri); brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Joe and Dorothy Santos and Val and Katie Flores; 13 grandchildren, George Lefler, Rodney Lefler, Lacie Lefler, Matt Kahl, Bruce Kahl, Krystal Williams, Amanda Kennison, Meredith Ritter, Melayne Devine, Jerry Hewlett, Wyatt Hewlett, Kim Trulli, and Carrie Supernaw; 19 great grandchildren; and many caring nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A viewing will be held at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B St., Merced, CA on Thursday, January 10th from 4:00pm-8:00pm. Graveside services will be at the Plainsburg Cemetery, 8943 E. Gillette Rd., Le Grand, CA on Friday, January 11th at 11:00am followed by a reception at the Le Grand Legion Hall, 12560 Le Grand Rd., Le Grand, CA.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.
