Mrs. Etelvira López, age 66, died in Merced, California, on June 18, 2020, of natural causes. Born in Mexico, Mrs. López, called Mary by her loved ones, made her home in Planada for over 50 years, surrounded by loving family and friends. She is survived by her husband Gregorio López, daughter Elia López-Orozco, son-in-law José Rubén Orozco, foster son Joél Zamorano, niece Rebekah Wynn, her mother Esperanza Yáñez, sisters Alicia Yáñez-Martínez and Rita González, brothers Ignacio, Simon, Roberto, José Luis, Carlos, and Alberto Yáñez, many nephews and nieces, and several cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Ignacio Yáñez, her nephews Juan Antonio and Ricardo Daniel Martínez, and her siblings-in-law Josefa and Jesús Silva.
Widely known in the community, Mrs. López touched many lives with her generosity, love, and laughter. Mary’s love for her family was a shining light, and her loss is deeply felt. A pillar of her family and her congregation, Mrs. López will be greatly missed by many.
The viewing will be held at Stratford and Evans Funeral Home in Merced on Thursday, June 25, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, observing social distancing measures and following state masking guidelines.
