Henry Broadus Greene III

July 20, 1952November 18, 2013

Henry B. Greene III, beloved husband, father, pastor, friend, died suddenly on Monday, November 18 at age 61. A native of Fresno and long-time resident of the Central Valley, he suffered a massive heart attack while hiking in his favorite location – Yosemite. He was born to Henry and Shirley Greene of Fresno, and is survived by two brothers and a sister. He also leaves behind his wife Karen of 39 years and three children: son Jeffrey with his wife Amy, son Peter with his wife Ashley, daughter Kathryn, and two precious granddaughters.

He graduated from McLane High School in Fresno, and attended Stanford University and Fresno State University, graduating in 1974. He obtained his Master of Divinity and his Doctorate of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1977 and 1996, respectively. He pastored Grandview Presbyterian Church for 5 years, Dinuba Presbyterian Church for 18 years, and Central Presbyterian Church for 13 years. Through his ministries in Glendale, Dinuba, and Merced, he left an indelible impression on more lives than he knew. While he is greatly missed, his family rejoices that Jesus Christ has the last word over all of our lives, and that word is life!

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 4th at 2pm at Central Presbyterian Church, 520 W. 20th St., Merced, CA 95340. Donations may be given in Henry’s name to Central Presbyterian Church.

We were in Santa Barbara last week to attend a remembrance for Susan's older sister Sandy and while there we stayed in LA and visited Glendale and La Canada Pres. The minister told us of Henry's death and today we read this obituary. We join you in shock and sadness. We have fond memories of you both.

Karen and I were shocked to read the news. Henry and I had so much fun together playing and studying in Pasadena. Our days with you both are still fresh in our memories. He was a man of conscience even in those days as I see he remained in his ministry. We pray God grants you quiet time especially in this holiday season. Hope to speak with you soon.

Dearest Karen, Kathryn, Peter, Jeff, and family,
I just heard Saturday night from the Klippenstein's about Henry's sudden passing. I am so sorry for your loss. I can't help but feel in my heart that he was already stepping into Heaven just by being in Yosemite! I see in my mind his huge all-encompassing smile, hear his sonorous, encouraging voice, see his kind eyes, and feel his firm handshake! What a man of God! Prayers for serenity and peace as you find your way through this first Christmas season-sing his favorite carols, share his best..and worst... jokes, and spread the Good News as he would want you to. He will be missed deeply by many; know that those many will be praying for each of you! With Love and Prayers, Penni Johnson

My prayers are with your family. My husband Gene Blankenship arrived in Heaven just a few days before Henry. Gene worked at Stratford Evans and knew Henry. I know exactly what you are all going through. Sincerely, Cathy Blankenship Merced

Dear Mrs. Greene and Family,

Our hearts go out to you and your family on the loss of your beloved husband. You have our deepest sympathy. I wanted you to know that my family, close friends and I were present when your husband suffered his fatal heart attack on Glacier Point. Together with visitors from countries around the world, we attempted to save him through CPR. Through the powers of the internet, we were able to learn who, and what a blessed man, he was. At any time in the future, if you would like to contact me, my email is, cell phone, 619.993.9550

Our deepest and most profound condolences to you on your dear husband's loss.
