OBITUARY

James Leroy Cavalla

July 5, 1926February 21, 2013

James was born July 5, 1926 in Los Banos, CA and passed away in Merced, CA February 21, 2013.

He went into the Army in 1944. While in service he received the Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He was discharged in 1946.

He married Lyn Nell in 1947. In 1951 he was called back to duty and enlisted in the Air Force. While serving in the Air Force he was stationed in Germany. He received National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After discharge in 1960 he went to work at Farmer’s Insurance. He was a Commercial Marketing Supervisor for 31 years.

He was generous in giving back to the community. He was a life member of American Legion post #38, 40/8, Disabled American Veterans, Past Commanders and Knights of Columbus 4th degree and 3rd degree. He was also a member of Merced Elks Lodge 1240, Italian Catholic Federation and Italo American Lodge.

He enjoyed watching golf, football and traveling to Las Vegas and Reno.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Theresa Cavalla and sister, Loretta Pederson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lyn Nell; son, James (Debby); granddaughter, Jamie Griggs (Tim) and great granddaughter, Rinna Griggs.

A Recitation of Rosary will be held at 10:00am on Friday, March 1st at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B St., Merced, CA. with a graveside to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home.
