James Belton Murphy Jr., was born in Modesto, Ca., on August 6, 1934. He graduated from Merced High School in 1952. He started working for Yosemite National Park Service when he was age 16, working full and part-time over a span of 38 years. After graduating from the University of Arizona, he served his country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Japan. He taught at Atwater High School from 1968 until retiring in 1998. James passed on November 20, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife Margo of 53 years, two sons Mike and Tim and six grandchildren. For those wishing to express their condolences, the Visitation will be held November 30 from 4pm to 7pm, with the Funeral Service to be held December 1 at 1pm, at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B St, Merced, Ca.
