

James D. Powell was born on March 21, 1936 in Martinsville, VA and passed away on January 13, 2013 in Merced, CA at the age of 76.
Jim served from 1953-1974 in the USAF and as an SRL-Ground Simulator Instructor at Castle Air Force Base from 1974-1984. While serving our country, Jim received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean War Service Medal, UN Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
At the age of 50 Jim received his private pilot’s license. He was very proud of this achievement.
Jim was that rare combination of strength and kindness. He was a dedicated family man who was beloved by his grandchildren. A perfect day for Dad was enjoying family. See you on the other side Pa.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Genieva Powell.
He leaves behind his wife, Judy Powell; daughters, Joanie (Jeff) Clarke and Lori (Mark) Santi; son, David Powell; grandchildren, Ali, Connor, and Brock; brothers, Bayness and Howard Powell; and sisters, Magdalene Wray and Edna Daniels.
A memorial service will be held at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B St., Merced, CA on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1:00pm.
