Jerry Cooper Huey Jr.

Jerry was a loving, kind, and faith-filled man whose presence brought comfort and strength to his family, friends, church community, and all whose lives he touched. He was a residence of Merced, California for 63 years and carried himself with humility and purpose. Jerry lived each day with a heart committed to God, to his loved ones, and to serving others.

Jerry devoted 31 years of his working life to PG&E, where he served faithfully as a welder and backhoe operator. He approached his work with dedication and dependability, earning the respect of his coworkers and all who knew him professionally. In addition to his career, Jerry devoted 45 years to ordained ministry, including 36 years shepherding his flock as a beloved pastor. His ministry reached far beyond the church walls, where he served as a compassionate family counselor and drug counselor to many in need of guidance, encouragement, and hope. He was a pillar of Potter's Place Ministry and Bible College, and his teachings helped shape countless lives. Through his preaching, counseling, and example, Jerry offered wisdom, prayer, and a steadfast reminder of God’s grace.

Jerry was a Christian whose life was grounded in faith and service. He earned his doctorate degree, reflecting his commitment to learning, spiritual growth, and the calling he embraced so fully. His education and ministry together formed a foundation that allowed him to minister with insight, compassion, and conviction. He was not only a pastor in title, but a shepherd in the truest sense, always ready to listen, uplift, and guide.

He also found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Jerry really loved and enjoyed music of all kinds, and music brought him happiness throughout the years. He also loved sports, especially baseball, and he was a devoted fan of the A's. Football was another favorite, and he proudly supported the Steelers.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Huey; his children, Kendrick, Shontinese Cooper Huey, Khristen Cooper Huey, Yvonne Spruell and Rachel Cooper Huey Dye; his brother Mickey Baldwin, Kenny Jerone Carr, Wayne Elliott Hardey and his sister Laura Irene Baldwin. He also leaves behind four grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and extended large family who will carry his memory forward with love and gratitude.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jerry Cooper Huey Sr. and Linder Lee Ford; his brothers, Henry Lee Baldwin, Author Baldwin, Johnny Ray Baldwin and his sister, Marjorie Baldwin Williams.

Those who knew Jerry will remember his gentle spirit, his steadfast faith, and the way he made others feel seen, heard, and valued. He was a man who loved deeply, served faithfully, and lived with purpose. His life was a blessing to his family, his church, and his community, and his influence will continue to be felt for generations to come.
