Jimmy J. Porta, whose life journey began on January 10, 1936, in Watsonville, California, completed his journey on September 8, 2025, in Merced, California.
Graduating from Salinas High School in the class of 1955, Jimmy joined in the family business as proprietor of the Castroville Inn, and later working for the North Monterey County School District. During this time, he met his loving wife, Cecilia Porta. On December 3, 1959, Jimmy and Cecilia married in the beautiful city of San Francisco. Together, their shared experiences and love would form a strong bond lasting over 58 years with laughter, tears, and joy.
Jimmy's legacy is carried forward by his beloved son, Robert Porta, and his granddaughter, Bethany Porta, who both reflect the love he bestowed upon them. Though he joins his loving wife, Cecilia, in heaven, the memories and experiences he imparts will always be a guiding force in their lives, especially that of family, community, and service.
A man who believed in community, Jimmy was a proud member of the Sons of Italy, Italo American Lodge, Merced Elks Lodge #1240 B.P.O.E, and Native Sons of the Golden West. His involvement in these organizations was not merely a pastime but a testament to his commitment to community and service. Jimmy knew what it meant to give back, to be a fellow brother.
Jimmy was truly a gift to his family, friends, and loved ones. His life was full, a journey marked by love, wisdom, and an unwavering dedication to family, faith, and friends. Jimmy's greatest titles were Husband, Dad, and Tata.
Jimmy will be deeply missed, yet he will always be remembered with a smile.
A Vigil Service with Rosary will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 673 E. Yosemite Avenue, Merced, California.
Following will be a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. 673 E. Yosemite Avenue, Merced, California.
Jimmy's final resting place will be honored on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park (Old Mausoleum), 127 Hecker Pass Road, Watsonville, California.
