Jo Ann Chavez

Joann B Chavez “JoJo” was born on June 25, 1937 to Maurice and Susan Bernal in Merced, California and passed away on February 13, 2016 in Merced, California at the age of 78 years. Joann was a life-long resident of Merced and retired from the Merced County School District, where she worked as the cafeteria manager for 27 years.

Joann is preceded in death by her parents, Maurice Bernal and

Conception Sanchez “Susie”.

Joann is survived by her husband of 61 years, Manuel J Chavez; children, Margaret Alvarez (Roy), Nancy Patnude (Don), Teresa Scott (Larry), and Joey Chavez (Patricia); brothers, Porky and Tony Rodriguez; sister, Delores Gomez (Edward); grandchildren, Deanna Alvarez, Angelina Rodriguez (Fernando), Jaclyn Reyna (Philip), Joseph, Emily and Grace Chavez; great grandchildren, Fernando Rodriguez Jr. and Elicia Rodriguez.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. with the recitation of the rosary beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Merced.

Burial will follow at

Calvary Cemetery in Merced.
