Lawrence Robert Torres

Lawrence Robert Torres, a long time resident of Merced, California passed away with his loving family by his side on April 23, 2015. He was born October 23, 1922 in Tollenson, Arizona to parents, Francisco and Candelaria Torres.

Lawrence worked proudly as a heavy construction truck driver for the teamsters union Local 429.Lawrence was a long time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Merced, Merced American Legion Post #83, and Merced V.F.W. Post #4327; where he served as Past Commander. Lawrence served in the Army- Air Force and was a SGT in WWII, European Theater and active in the V.F.W. Honor Guard.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Candelaria Torres; his son, Larry John Torres; four brothers, and three sisters. Lawrence leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Irene Torres; his son, John Torres a.k.a. Mr. Sonny (Mary) of Atwater, CA; his daughter, Lorraine P. Torres. (Mrs. Lorrie) of Merced, CA; a Grandson Michael Ray Torres (Samantha) of Merced, CA; great granddaughter, Scarlett Elisa Torres of Merced, CA; brother, Jess Hernandez (Rosalie) of Merced, CA; and his sister, Mary Sapien of Merced, CA.

A visitation will be held on Thursday April 30, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with rosary to beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B Street Merced, CA 95341. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday May 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 13th & M Street, Merced CA, 95341. A graveside service to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 260 West Childs Avenue Merced, CA, 95340. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church project parking lot.
