Lory Lyn Ortega

April 3, 1955June 27, 2020

On June 27th, Lory Ortega, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully at her home after a long heroic struggle with ALS. Lory was born and raised in Merced, California by her parents, Richard and Reba Beutel. She attended McSwain Elementary and graduated from Merced High School in 1973. Lory met her loving husband, Richard Ortega, in 1969 and married him right out of high school. They had one beautiful daughter, Natalie. Being raised on a ranch, Lory loved the outdoors. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, decorating her home and watching her daughter play soccer. She also enjoyed cooking, going to the casino, being with her family and riding passenger on Richard's motorcycle among many other things. She worked for many years in the Merced County auditor's office as well as helping her husband run their business, Ortega's Watch Repair. She loved and was dedicated to her family and friends. Always giving and never expecting anything in return. Lory was an exceptional person who was kind to all she met, a very hard-worker, fun-loving and was taken much too soon. Lory is preceded in death by her father, Richard Beutel and sisters, Debbie DeBoer and Marilyn Fleming. She is survived by her husband, Richard, of 47 years, daughter, Natalie (Ortega) Webb, son-in-law, Greg Webb and beloved grandson, Jacob Webb, mother, Reba Beutel and brothers, Chris and David Beutel. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Richard and Natalie would like to thank all friends and family for the continued support and encouragement that was given to Lory over the past few months of her life. The greetings cards, donations from close friends and family, meals that were brought over, texts and the love and joy that everyone gave to Lory while she was still with us will never be forgotten and will continue to help her family get through this time of hardship.

The family has planned a service and celebration of life at a later date, when everyone can come together to honor the amazing woman Lory was and will always be.

I will never forget the day (and only day) I got to meet the entire Beutel clan. Everyone was of course welcoming but Aunt Lory was the one whom I had the longest conversations with. She asked me ALL about my life and my family, and gave me all the dirt on the Beutel family. Since that day she reached out as often as she could on whatever social media we had together. Talking about our kids, my husband (her nephew). Always reminding me how to handle one of the Beutel men! She was always always kind to me and she will forever be missed in our hearts. We love you Aunt Lory!

Words can never express how fortunate I am to have known Lory Ortega. Her heart radiated love and kindness in all her words and actions. It is with great sadness that we lost Lory so early. However it is my fortune that I have the fondest memories of her forever. Lory truly impacted my life.
Genuinely Grateful, Karen Adams

My wife, Sherry, and are blessed having known Lory. She will always hold a special place in our hearts. She has touched our lives with kindness, love and tenderness. She has been an example to those around her with the tenacity of a lion and heart of a teddy bear. We consider ourselves lucky to have been with Lory, Rick, Natalie and Jacob a few weeks before she passed. Certainly silver linings to our lives. We love this family and can only wish peace upon them during this trying time. God bless you Lory as we will never say goodbye but will say we look forward to seeing you again!

My dear friend Lory,
My heart is heavy as I mourn your passing. You were one of the kindest, most loving friends I had. I knew you for 47 years. It was at your home that my husband proposed to me on my birthday when I was just 20 years old. I remember it like it was yesterday. You and Rick were SO excited for us. I loved the special times we had as couples. You will forever be in my heart. I love you Rick and Natalee. We will be here for you always. Love you Lory. Have peace with pain no longer.
Love, Sherry
