Mae Anna Hagerman

Mae Hagerman was born on November 10, 1919 in Merced, California and passed away on September 20, 2017 in Merced, California. She lived to be 97 years old. She graduated from Merced High School in 1939. In 1940 Mae attended the Asilomar in Pacific Grove, California and worked at Station Hospital in Monterey, California. She later went on to be a typist and receptionist at the Merced Army Air Field. She was the eighth employee to be hired by the Air Field. Mae went on to marry Leon Hagerman on April 4, 1946. They were married for 44 years. Together they had 3 children, Lynn, Jayne and Robert. Mae and Leon raised turkeys from 1948-1967. Afterwards they went on to raise cattle and grew a variety of crops. In 1974, Mae went back to work for the Merced County Elections Department until she retired in 1989. Mae will be forever remembered by her family and friends as someone who loved spending quality time with them and for her joy of cooking.

Mae is preceded in death by her husband Leon Hagerman, her daughter Lynn Dennis, sons’ in-law Alfred Dennis and John Sorensen, her sister Millie Robertson and brother Robert Patterson, Jr.

Mae is survived by her children Jayne Sorensen and Robert Hagerman, Merced, California, her brother William “Bill” Patterson, Merced, California, her sister Roberta “Bobbie” Matthews, Livingston, California, along with 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

There will be a memorial service held in her honor on September 26, 2017 at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home located at 1490 B. Street, Merced, California at 1:00 p.m..
