Manuel passed away on January 6th, 2023 after a courageous battle with numerous health issues. He was born on November 11, 1955 to Hector and Juanita Apodaca in Merced and grew up in Atwater. He attended Atwater High School, graduating in 1974. He was a member of the award-winning band, playing clarinet, and participating in a trip to Vienna, Austria. After high school he moved to San Francisco to take classes in graphic design. He worked in San Francisco as a food server and chef, honing his skills until 1990, when he moved back to Merced to open his own restaurant, Courtyard Cafe. After selling the restaurant in 2002, Manny became a caregiver for a few local families. He provided exceptional care for his grateful clients.
Manny had a quick wit and a notable sense of humor. He had the ability to turn an ordinary event into an exceptional affair with his decorating and cooking abilities, which he shared with many. His attention to detail created warm and inviting environments in his home and others. He was a master at decorating for holidays and events. Every space he touched was left more beautiful and cleaner! Gardening, creating beautiful outdoor spaces, cooking, and baking were activities he enjoyed. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Manny is survived by his brother Ralph (Teresa), nieces Cristen (Joe) and Joslyn, nephews Eric (Starla) and Jared (Annalisa), plus five great nephews. He is also survived by many cousins, including the Torres family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hector and Juanita Apodaca, and numerous pet cats, including his beloved Penny.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.stratfordevansfunerals.com for the Apodaca family.
