Maria attended a convent school, “Las Carmelitas” in Mazatlán, Mexico up to 3rd grade. The children where she lived called her “Carmelita” because she attended a convent school. That is how she became known to almost everyone as “Carmen”. Maria dreamed of getting a higher education, but life had other plans for her.
While living in Mexico in order to help her parents and siblings Maria learned to be a seamstress, she made wedding and quinceañera dresses. Her clients would bring a photo of a dress and she could duplicate it. All without using a pattern; she was 12 years old at the time.
Maria was a long time employee of Live Oak Farms in Le Grand, where she worked for over 50 years. She retired and traveled to Hawaii, Empalme, Mazatlán, Ensenada, Guadalajara and Mexico City, Mexico to visit friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her Mother Soledad S. Sánchez, her Father Jose Salcido, Brother Fortino Salcido and Sister Juventina Salcido Aceves. Maria also had 3 other siblings who died as children.
What gave Maria great joy was seeing family and friends, volunteering her time fundraising for Our Lady of Lourdes and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Club, and American Legion Auxiliary. She worked tirelessly to raise her family during hard times never asking anyone for assistance. She was humble, hardworking, loyal & loving; never speaking unkindly of anyone. She was loved by everyone who knew her.
