Raised in Merced, California, Mark was proud of his Central Valley roots. He graduated from Merced High School, where he made a name for himself as an outstanding athlete in basketball and high jump, which earned him an athletic scholarship to attend UC Berkeley. His accomplishments included becoming an Olympic alternate, competing against Bruce Jenner, and earning induction into the Merced High School Hall of Fame, where he still holds the high jump record to this day.
Mark spent much of his life working hard to provide for his family. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and found great joy in watching his family grow through the years.
Later in life, Mark found happiness with his wife, Nicole. Together they enjoyed traveling, especially to Pismo Beach, one of their favorite destinations. They also made many memories on trips to Nevada, Utah, and Florida, where they spent time with family and friends. They eventually made their home in Chowchilla, where he built close friendships with his neighbors and community.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Antoinette Ridge. He is survived by his loving wife, Nicole; his brother, Bruce; his children, Matthew (Elena), Steven (Julianna), Stephanie (Freddy), Max (Mimi); his grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
Mark leaves behind a lifetime of memories that his family and friends will carry with them always. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
In the coming weeks, family and friends will gather to celebrate Mark's life, share stories, and remember the many good times they had with him. More information will be shared as plans are finalized.
