

Matlide was a native of Los Reyes Michoacán, Mexico where she spent 79 years of her life as a home maker and wife. Matilde married the love of her life in 1943 at the age of 15. Her husband Leonardo Sanchez Garcia preceded Matilde in death but she continued loving him until her death. Matilde went on to own her own restaurant and many rental properties in her home country of Mexico. When Matilde was not working, she loved to cook a good meal some of her favorites were, Chile Verde and pork or white rice and enchiladas and homemade tortillas. Along with good food she enjoyed good music and dance, especially at the Merced County Fair Grounds for the concerts they held. Matilde`s love of music helped her befriend the staff at the Gallito Radio Station in Merced also known as Radio Tigre and radio Lobo. Matilde also enjoyed traveling to Chicago Illinois and Texas to see distant family members.Matilde was the kind of lady who attended and participated in her church and always put her savor first. Matilde had a gentle heart a vibrant smile that calmed any room she was in. She is greatly loved by her children and grandchildren they were her world. Matilde will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Matilde was preceded in death by her parents Cornelio Castaneda Vega (Father) and Mother Maria Cleofas Hernandez (Mother) also her twin children Jose Sanchez (son) and Maria Sanchez (daughter), Jose Luis Sanchez (son), and Brothers Jose Maria Castaneda “Tio Chema”, sisters: Maria De Jesus Castaneda Hernandez, Maria De los Angeles Castaneda Hernandez, Maria del Carman Castaneda Hernandez, Maria Del Sagrario Castaneda Hernandez, Maria Guadalupe Castaneda Hernandez, Maria Castaneda Hernandez. She leaves behind her five children Jesus Castaneda (son), Marie Guadalupe Mendoza (daughter), Rigoberto Sanchez (son), Maria Del Carmen “chila” Sanchez (daughter), Margarita Sanchez (daughter). She also leaves behind her 35 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
A Visitation will take place at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home on Tuesday May 21st 2013 From 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. with a recitation of the rosary at 6:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday May 22nd 12:00 p.m at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be held at Merced District Cemetery.
