Neal Gordon McDonald

Neal Gordon McDonald was born in Newark, New Jersey to Barton and Anna McDonald on July 5th, 1933. Neal passed away surrounded by family on June 27, 2019 in Merced, California at the age of 85. Neal and his wife Rita were long time resident of Richmond, California and they recently moved to Merced, California to be near family. Neal proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Neal was a graduate of the California College of Arts & Crafts where he became a Graphic Artist. Neal along with his wife Rita were long time members of the University Lutheran Chapel located in Berkeley, California. Neal was an avid reader, he also played and enjoyed tennis for many years, he loved art and music and was an aficionado, of his favorite game show “Jeopardy.” Neal is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rita McDonald, his daughter Dana McDonald of Oakland, California his son, Brian McDonald of Merced, California, and Sister Lois Hickson, of Benicia, California. Neal also leaves behind, to cherish his memory, six grandchildren, Justin, Zachary, Nicole, Gwen, Noah, and Sophia and his great- grandchild, Parker and one more great-grandchild to join this loving family in September of 2019. He also leaves many other family members and friends. Neal is preceded in death by his parents, Barton and Anna McDonald and his sister Gerri Linson. A Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving will be held at the University Lutheran Chapel located at 2425 College Avenue, Berkeley, California 94704, on July 13th, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
