Norman Edgar James

Norman Edgar James, a long-time resident of Merced, CA, passed away peacefully at the age of 92. Norman was a native of Rabun County, Georgia, but after graduating high school he joined the Air Force and spent the next 20 years traveling around the world. After retirement he then spent 20 years working in Government Civil Service for the Air Force.

Norman attended Christian Life Center in Merced, California where he was involved int the Seniors Ministry and loved being the greeter. Sharing his wit and humor with all.

Norman is preceded in death by his parents Edgar Survaley James and Dora (Billingsley) James, his siblings Karl Kenneth James, Robert Willis James and daughter Karen Winter.

Norman is survived by his wife of 41 years Betty Lou James, daughter Rhonda James (Hugh), stepsons Richard Smith (Debbie), Robert Smith, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2026 10:00 a.m. at Christian Life Center, 650 E. Olive Ave, Merced, CA 95340. Interment is to be at: San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 McCabe Rd, Santa Nella, CA at 2:00 p.m.
