Norman developed trigeminal neuralgia, C.O.P.D., and Bell’s Palsy that left his left eye opened all the time.
He was born in Keota, Oklahoma to May and Speedy Young. He came to Planada in 1960 to work with his uncles at Calpak and then Delmony. He then worked for six years for General Electric until they closed. He then went to work for the Merced County road department which he loved. He retired in 2002. Norman loved baseball. He coached little league baseball for many years. He also played fast pitched baseball for the LeGrand Legion Post 660 for L.D. Huie. But his passion was bass fishing. He made a lot of his own lures. He said, “a good day was fishin’”. He never kept them, it was catch and release.
Norman was the third child of nine kids.
He is preceded by his sister Lena and Pete and brother Berl and he is survived by brother Jeryl Ray and Polly. Sisters Linda, Jerry, Judy, and Lela all from Oklahoma. He’s survived by son Donnie Young and daughter Keely Young. Two wonderful grandkids Shane Young-Gillard and (Dolly) Makayla Young-Reyes. He was crazy about them. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Norton-Young, who never left his side.
We would like to thank the nurses who came and helped and a big thank you to Dr. Ossowski and his staff. They have been a big help. Also, thank you all for all the prayers that were said for Norman and thank you Lana Spurlock for her help. Norman asked that there would be no services or fuss after his passing. He wanted everyone to have peace. We will be honoring his request.
