Patricia Clausen, at the age of 86, passed away Monday July 18, 2016 in Merced. Family and many friends will miss Pat tremendously. She was born in Long Beach CA. where she lived the first eight years of her life. She then moved to Merced and was a longtime resident for 78 years. She was a graduate of Merced High School. Patty initially worked at Merced Sun Star in the advertising department before becoming a homemaker. She loved taking care of her family and always providing a home cooked meal for them at the end of the day. Patricia and her late husband, Clayton, spent 53 wonderful years together happily married before his passing in 2009.
Pat was an avid golfer. She and Clayton were members of Merced Golf and Country Club for many years. They traveled numerous places and always incorporated golf into their trips. Pat was fortunate enough to attend the prestigious Masters Golf Tournament in Georgia with Clayton. She made a lot of friends out on the golf course especially in the central valley. She played Team Play for Merced Golf & Country Club where the ladies would host and travel to other clubs to compete in friendly golf competitions. One of Pat’s golf highlights was her victorious win of the MG&CC women’s club championship.
Patty was also involved with other organizations such as Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO). She enjoyed attending the meetings and the opportunity to make new friendships. This was one of her greatest qualities. She loved talking with others. She was also a member of the Central Presbyterian Church (CPC) where she and Clayton were married in 1956. Pat’s parents were also married in the Presbyterian Church. Keeping with the tradition, both of Pat and Clayton’s children celebrated their marriages in the CPC. She thoroughly enjoyed listening to the Sunday music and hearing the message for the day.
Patty loved tradition…for the past 40 years the family would take annual trips to Lake Tahoe. She always looked forward to the wonderful times spent on the lake with the grandkids. Patty was usually the first one out on the beach enjoying the views all day long. She was also good at getting someone to join her for a good ol’ card game of gin rummy. Holidays were full of tradition too. Thanksgiving and Christmas were spent at the Clausen house and every year the family could count on having the Christmas Eve stew.
Grammy was extremely proud of all five of her grandchildren. They made her smile and laugh. They held a very special place in her heart. They were the “apple of her eye” and she loved each one of them dearly. She cherished the times when she had all of her grandchildren with her.
Patricia is survived by her two children, son Scott Clausen and wife Debbie Clausen and daughter Katy Addington and husband Tom Addington. She is survived by grandchildren Erika and (Trevor) Squires, Charlie Clausen, Carter Clausen, Jonah Addington and Luke Addington and two sisters, Marjorie McBee and Janet Morris. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Clayton Clausen, and her parents Charles and Gloria Morris. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Stratford and Evans. Patricia’s memorial service will be held on Saturday July 30th at Central Presbyterian Church of Merced at 11 A.M. A private graveside service for family will take place prior to the church service. Remembrances may be made to the Central Presbyterian Church or the American Cancer Society.
Patricia’s family would like to thank all of her friends who visited her often and always made her feel special. Also, thank you to her doctors who not only cared for her, but who were also friends and the staff at Merced Park Place for their care and kindness. She was a fantastic lady who enjoyed life to the fullest! She will be dearly missed.
