Pauline Hylton passed away peacefully at the of age 92 surrounded by her loving family on June 26, 2022. Our precious fourth generation has ended. Pauline had a long life and many adventures with her husband Dean Hylton for 53 years. After Dean's death in October 2001, she still enjoyed life with family and friends. The grandchildren brought her many joys. They loved their Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great Great Grandmother very much. She loved her special companion Cindy, her dog who gave her comfort during her years at home after Dean passed.
Pauline enjoyed reading books. Her sister Audrey, her long time friend Evelyn , and herself would often exchange books personally and via mail. Pauline was especially proud of her orange tree making sure everyone received some each year at just the RIGHT time. We had to wait until late January or February so the fruit would be at its peak of sweetness. They tasted like orange sliced candy. She also enjoyed her houseplants and anticipated the annual blooming of her Christmas Cactus.
For over a decade, after Deans death, she was an active member of Grace Community Church in Merced. She joyfully and with great pride, took on the task of mailing Birthday cards from the church to members and enjoyed hearing the excitement in children voices when they said they received a birthday card.
Pauline was born on July 18, 1929, in Macon, GA and relocated at a very young age with her parents to Iowa. There her sister Audrey was born. They grew up there during the depression, a time when life was hard for everyone. They finished high school and began their individual lives. Pauline worked for the Iowa State Tax Commission. Through a co-worker, she met her future husband on a blind date and 3 months later, they were married. Together on the farm, they raised 2 children, Benjamin and Carolyn. In 1964, like pioneers, they moved to Merced, Ca. She took a typing class and applied for a job at Farmers Insurance where she worked for 23 years. Pauline continued the friendship of three co-workers going to monthly lunches.
During her retirement, Dean and herself joined the local AARP where she took on the task of Treasurer until the time of her husband's illness. Together they took several trips with the group or sometimes just the two of them would travel.
She knew the Lord loved her and held the hope of being once again reunited with her husband, mother and family. Pauline Hylton is survived by loving family members. Sister-Audrey Coleman Phoenix, AZ Children, Benjamin and Kathy Hylton, Bakersfield, Ca, Carolyn and George Watkins, Winton Ca
