It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Rene J. Santos, a cherished husband, devoted father, beloved grandfather, and treasured friend on June 22, 2026, at the age of 74. Rene left his world as he loved in it – surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.
Born on August 25, 1951, Rene was the cherished son of the late Efren and Rosa Santos. He was preceded in death by his parents and his dear brothers, Lupe and Efren Jr. Santos. Rene’s legacy of love continues through his devoted wife, Elena Salazar Santos, with whom he shared 50 plus beautiful years of partnership and marriage. Together, they created a loving family that includes their children, Jose Alvarez, Jesse Alvarez, Andrea Santos (Ostos), Rene Santos Jr., and Richard Santos; Rene’s siblings, Alicia, Joe, Frankie, Mary, Yolanda, Samuel, and Martha along with numerous nieces, nephews will forever hold him in their hearts.
Rene’s life was enriched by the presence of his 26 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, each of whom brough him immense joy and pride. His family was his world, and he never missed an opportunity to gather with them, especially during their cherished times at the lake.
Rene honorably served his country in the U.S. Military, a testament to his dedication and love for his country. Following his service, he spent over 25 years as a skilled diesel mechanic, a career that not only showcased his remarkable talents but also his passion for mechanics.
Those who knew Rene will forever remember his generous spirit, gentle kindness, and infectious sense of humor. He had an unparalleled ability to make others smile and feel welcome. His warmth and generously left a lasting impact on everyone he met, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who were lucky enough to know him.
A visitation for Rene will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. with a Celebration of Life beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B Street Merced, CA. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 260 West Childs Avenue Merced, CA. A reception will follow at the Stratford Evans Reception Hall.
