Richard was born and grew up in Portland Maine. Richard joined the United States Air Force at the age of 18. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years where he held the highest security clearance, performing work so top secret that he couldn’t share details with his family. Richard also served as a manpower analyst for the Air Force. He traveled from base to base to study the manpower and equipment needed or not needed to ensure the effectiveness of the daily operation and security of each base.

While in the Air Force, Richard obtained his pilot license at age 19. Richard loved flying and riding motorcycles. After becoming a family man, he gave up flying and motorcycles. He enjoyed activities that involved his children and grandchildren such as; boating/water-skiing, camping, fishing, hunting, and taking trips in his motor home. After retiring from the Air Force he worked in sales with John Roth Chevrolet and MetLife Insurance.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Leila Homan and his sister Isabel.

Richard is survived by his wife Naomi, sons; Richard Jr and David (wife Joanne), daughter Sharon (husband Pete) and son Anthony (wife Ellie). Richard was blessed with 8 grandchildren whom he cherished and loved with all his heart, he was so proud of his grandchildren. Richard would say “I may not be rich and famous but I have PRICELESS grandchildren”.

A celebration of life with full military honors will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home located at 1490 B Street Merced, CA 95341.

Richard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed and forever in our hearts.
