Rosetta Franklin

Early Life and Education:

Rosetta Franklin was born on February 3, 1934, in Merced, California, to Annie and Howard Woods. She spent her formative years in Merced, where she attended local elementary and junior high schools and was raised within a close-knit family and community.

Following the loss of her husband, Jammie Van Franklin, during the Vietnam War, Rosetta demonstrated remarkable resilience by returning to school to complete her high school education. She graduated from Merced High School and later pursued higher education, earning a bachelor’s degree in social work from Stanislaus State College. Her academic achievements reflected her determination, perseverance, and lifelong commitment to personal growth and service.

Family and Personal Life:

Rosetta’s greatest pride and most cherished accomplishment was raising her three children as a single mother. She was a devoted and steadfast parent who provided unwavering love, guidance, and encouragement throughout every stage of their lives. Her strength and devotion formed the foundation of her family and remained a defining aspect of her life.

She will be remembered for her radiant smile, generous spirit, quiet strength, and deep love for her family. Rosetta’s presence brought comfort, warmth, and encouragement to all who knew her, and her kindness left a lasting impression on those around her.

Career and Professional Life:

Rosetta dedicated 23 years of service to the Ragu Company, where she advanced to the role of supervisor. She was highly regarded for her leadership, strong work ethic, and commitment to excellence. Her professional life reflected her integrity, discipline, and dedication to both her responsibilities and her colleagues.

Service and Community Involvement:

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Rosetta devoted much of her life to serving others. Following the loss of her husband, she found support and fellowship through her involvement with the Gold Star Wives organization.

In retirement, she continued her commitment to community service by volunteering at the Merced Veterans Affairs Clinic and at a local shelter supporting survivors of domestic violence. Alongside her sister Lucille, she also assisted community members by preparing tax returns for those in need of financial assistance. Her life was marked by quiet generosity, compassion, and a consistent willingness to help others.

Family and Legacy:

Rosetta is lovingly remembered by her three children, James Salery Jr., Terri A. Franklin, and LaRay Van Franklin; the Barnes family children; her two grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jammie Van Franklin; her mother, Annie Slaton-Walker; her father, Howard Woods; her sisters, Lucille Barnes and Bertha Larry; and her brother, John Woods Sr.

Service Information:

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on August 27, 2026 at Stratford Evans Funeral Home.

Closing:

Rosetta’s legacy is one of love, service, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
