Sonny Ivory Mills was born on October 3, 1946 in Button, Willow California to Allie Mae Brewton and Ira Mills. He was raised in rural Merced, California where he graduated from Weaver Union Elementary School before attending Merced High School. Sonny was a mechanic by trade and he work at many jobs. From a very young boy until his late teens Sonny enjoyed raising pigeons. He loved his pigeons and spent so much time with them that he named them and not only knew them apart, but he knew show was their mate and their babies names. One of Sonny’s favorite sports was “Frogging”. He spent a lot of time out at the canals catching frogs which he cooked and ate. As a young man, Sonny loved to travel. He was a member of a motorcycle club and he loved riding his Harley to visit relatives and friends all across California from the Bay Area to the L.A. Area. Sonny’s nickname was “Cool Turkey” (because he thought he was so cool). Sonny loved to talk. He had strong opinions about everything and whether he was asked or not, He didn’t hesitate to voice those opinions. Sonny was a very big jokester. Who laughed so hard at his own jokes that he caused everybody around him to laugh too. Sonny will be missed by family, friends, and acquaintances. Sonny was preceded in death by his Mother Allie May Brewton, his father Ira Mills, and his 4 brothers Michael, Ames, Troy, George Beavers and Anthony Beavers. Sonny leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Matthew, Jeremy, Anthony and Jessie. His daughter Mary Lou, Sister Beverly Brewton King, brothers Cleveland Brewton, Larry Beavers, Beloved Uncle Ervin Beavers and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
