Stanley McMurray

November 28, 1929February 27, 2018

Stanley McMurray passed away peacefully on February 27, 2018. He was born in Merced, California to Sallie and Charles McMurray in 1929. He graduated from Livingston High School. He also served in the army where he was deployed to Korea during the Korean War. After his discharge he joined the Laborer’s International Union and worked as a construction laborer on several large construction projects. He left construction to take a position with the Winton Elementary School District as a grounds keeper where he worked for 22 years until he retired in 2007. Stanley was an avid gardener who generously shared his bounty of fresh vegetables with neighbors and friends. He was known for his tomatoes. He also loved to cook, delighting friends and family with famous potato salad and red beans when entertaining for cookouts in his backyard. Stanley was preceded in death by his brothers, Roscoe McMurray, R.Q McMurray and John V. McMurray and his sisters, Letha Moore and Dorothy Wiggins. Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Sallie Baylor; his brother Arthur McMurray and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He will be especially missed by his nephew, Marque Wiggins, and family who have cared for Stanley over the last several years. We would like to give special thanks to the loving staff at Pacifica Senior Living who continued to care for Stanley like family. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home, 1490 B Street, Merced, California. Interment will follow at Winton District Cemetery, 7657 Almond Ave, Winton, California 95388.
