William (Bill) Vaughn was born on March 3, 1928 to Harold and Guelda Vaughn at Mercy Hospital in Merced, California. At the age of 90, William went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2018. William grew up in the Merced area as the son of a farmer. He attended school in Merced and met his briBill) Vaughn was born on March 3, 1928 to Harold and Guelda Vaughn at Mercy Hospital de Billy (Wallis) Vaughn while attending High School. Their courtship continued while attending the Central Presbyterian Church in Merced, where they were married on April 24, 1948. William was a farmer until he left to work for California Department of Transportation, where he retired in 1990 after 25 years of service. After retirement, William and Billy took the next 15 years to travel and do volunteer work with Wycliffe Translators, Fairhaven, New Tribes, and Stonecroft Ministries. Their travels took them to N. Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Alaska, Canada, England, and South America (Beliz). They also worked with the Eskimos in Alaska and a Navajo Tribe in Arizona. William helped each site in various capacities to include heavy equipment operations, electrical and carpentry. William was also a long time member of Gideons. William enjoyed making stained glass, remodeling homes, working in his garden and serving the Lord. In his declining years, he enjoyed watching birds and their antics.
William is survived by his wife of 70 years, Billy Vaughn. William had four children: Phillip Vaughn (deceased), Katie (Jim) Tesone, Andrew Vaughn and Kelly (Michael) Burnett; seven grandchildren, Michael (Rachel) Tesone, Mary (Jason) Mueller, David Tesone (deceased), Kaylene (Ryan) Kelly, Curtis (Rhonda) Wright, Amanda Wright and Stevyn Burnett; 13 great grandchildren, Donavan, Eden, Peter, Conner, Genevieve, Maximillion, Lillyanna, Jacob, Joshua, Chloe, Maddox, Robert and Rorry.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Central Presbyterian Church on May 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in William’s name to Gideon’s International, PO Box 2683, Merced Cal.ifornia 95344.
