Bivin C. Broughton

Bivin Carter “Bill” Broughton passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church, with visitation at 9:00-11:00 AM. Dr. John Temple will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Garden with Stephens Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Bill taught Sunday school for over 50 years and was a 25-year member of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church. He was an active outdoorsman who loved his family, church, traveling, fishing and hunting. Bill attended Auburn University and Duke University, earning BS and MS degrees in forestry. He was a highly-respected Registered Forester in the states of AL and MS.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sylvia Taylor Broughton, of Meridian, his children Kay Broughton Richardson (Brian), of Brandon, MS, Leigh Broughton Hazelgrove (Ralph) of Mt. Dora, FL, Lyle Broughton (Alana) of Butler, AL, and Greg Roberts (Elizabeth) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Also surviving Bill are his brother, Dan Broughton (Sheila), Highlands, NC, and Betty Norwood of Butler, AL.

Other survivors include his grandchildren Jordan Richardson, Ryan Hazelgrove, Tim Hazelgrove (Cheryl), Matt Hazelgrove (Kayce), Joy Owens (Tim), Zoey Broughton, Carter Broughton, Gracie Hall, Christian Hall, Blake Roberts, Cameron Roberts, and five great grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by grandson, Jon Richardson and parents, Bivin and Eunice Broughton.

Pallbearers are Jordan Richardson, Ryan Hazelgrove, Kevin Broughton, Larry Hubbard, Brent Loper, Justin Adams, Kyle Adams, and Ken Covington.
